Legend or Myth?

What is a Legend?

Legends may be based on something that really happened ages ago and has been exaggerated over the years. They may be about a place or person and some are famous worldwide, like the legend of King Arthur. Often, some are only known in the area they are from and may be about fantastic people like giants or mermaids, dragons, witches & wizards.

What is a Myth?

The word ‘mythos’ means ‘story’ in Greek and a myth is a story from the past, sometimes thousands of years old. Every country have myths to be told, often from Europe, ancient Greece & the Roman empire. The people involved are usually gods with super powers that embark on a journey to outwit a frightening creature or monster.

Folklore includes legends & myths. An urban legend or myth is a modern form of folklore and often consists of fictional stories associated with the macabre, superstitions, ghosts, demons or other fearful tales.
